What Software Testing Tool Can I Use In Order To Test Java Applets?

I need to: * Be Able To Set Parameters, Handle Variables And Change The Applet to be tested for example. * Be Free (Opensource or Shareware). I mean, No Trialware or No Vendor. * Be Available In Source Code Available or at least a “.jar”. * Be Easy To Download. * Able to test web application applets. First of all thanks to those few dudes who have cared about my question and provide some answers. However, it is beyond ahead what I am expecting. I am testing a Web Application by means of (SourceForge’s) Jameleon. It sets the parameters into the web browser (The Client) which interacts with the server. My question deals with how to build a Swing plug-in for that. Some tips???

Web Development Services – Contribution Of Programming And Testing

Contribution of Programming: Web Development Services include development of basic websites to highly complex and structured websites. Earlier local personal computer revolutionized the market and started offering application to cater all user needs but their mission and vision lacked the flexibility. Hence loop was filled after World Wide Web invented. We entered into a new era with great aspirations and crazy vision. Different programming languages have been developed as well as scripting language were developed keeping in mind the necessity for web based application. At first languages was code .Calculating Bernoulli numbers is considered as the first computer programming. Earlier around twentieth century numerical calculation were based on decimal numbers. Around 1950 modern programming languages were developed such as FORTAN, COBOL, and LIST; similarly ALGOL has been developed for algorithms. The use of programming language C has been developed in  Bells lab which became the revolutionary language and hence gave the birth to the numbers of  object oriented programming languages such as C++, Java, C#, .net etc which are now widely used to develop web based application. The tremendous popularity of programming language created a new type of community called hackers, they are the programmer who tries to break the existing programmed system. Nowadays special measures are taken to avoid such fraud attacks such as vishing, pishing, spam etc. Especially web based applications are vulnerable to such attacks as they are accessible to n-numbers of users across the globe. Web development service providers are mainly concerned with the following: Usability Functionality Security and Performance Usability of websites refers to the ease with which the user navigates through the application. Functionality guarantees the development of application abiding the details on the requirement document. Security is concerned with developing the sites less vulnerable to the hackers or the computer bots programs and finally performance measures the response time, load time and the cause of the effect of the bottlenecks problems. Nowadays, craze of online shopping is gaining rapid popularity among the youths worldwide. E-commerce application is gaining popularity day after day. Thousands of online e-commerce application for hotel booking, online shopping, online bidding etc is being hosted in abundance. The rate of these types of application is growing. Hence web based e-Commerce Services solution provider are catering the needs of the organization who wants to make global appearance. Refinement in web development services are promoting the e commerce market in very positive way. Web Application Testing: Testing is the process of diagnosing the built application to check whether application developed are according to the specification or not and the application being developed are going according to the standards, the terms usually comes under verification and validation. Its possible to check and find the loop holes if testing is done on the web based application. There are number of automation testing tool available in the market to cater the needs of testers. Different complex applications such as online banking, online reservation and online booking needs a through and rigorous testing as this application are on the limelight on every search engine. Application functionality, its performance and security are the main scope for its testing. Web Development Services providers allocate this task to Quality team whose responsibility is to detect the fault and get is fixed done from the development teams. Neglecting the above mentioned features not only application suffers in the live environment but the web development service provider equally has to suffer the loss. Hence testing is being considered as overall quality check from the very initial stages of software development life cycle till it goes live and in some case even beyond it. Hence refinement in development and testing is the only measure for the immense success among the global flaw hunters and competitors. Copyright@2010 by Vidushi InfoTech (SSP) PVT LTD. Testing an Expert Advisor: Some Useful Tips!

An expert advisor has to pass through a rigorous phase of testing before coming into action and dealing with real time market data. As the application deals with a very liquid market which involves huge volumes of trades, so testing becomes a very important part of its development lifecycle. According to the global standards, it must pass through this phase with a minimum of 90% accuracy in different market models.   It is provided with a testing tool that can be opened by “Tester” tab in the main menu. In addition historical data collected from different market models is also important as the results displayed after the execution of this phase are dependent on the historical test data. The executing strategy includes specifying the ‘from’ and ‘to’ date in the settings tab under the tester menu. The tester tool works on the concept of formulating the data in the form of bars and determining the statistical variable by applying mathematical algorithms on the bars. A minimum of 100 bars are required to start the process of validating the process for successful results. The modeling process starts calculating from the start date, stores the results in a file and stops calculating at the end to date.   After the process ends, the results can be viewed either in the form of statistics or in the form of charts. Sometimes a debugging process is also followed to cross-validate the data. The results of this phase are used in optimizing the performance of expert advisor by changing the modeling parameters. The caching process to optimize the parameters is done by genetic algorithm which uses genetic fundamentals in mutating and altering the value. A log file is also generated in the log folder to portray the overall results and changed parameters.

Functional testing of software using image recognition?

Hi! I am looking for an automated software testing tool for functional testing that uses image recognition to determine pass/failure of tests. The only product I have found that does this is Eggplant which is expensive; all other testing tools I have found look into the HTML source code, which prevents me from testing things like Flash, Silverlight or AIR applications very easily. Any ideas?

SOA Testing for the Travel and Hospitality Industry

Renowned enterprise software design consultant Martin Fowler has this to say about Service Oriented Architecture (SOA): “I’ve heard people say the nice thing about SOA is that it separates data from process, that it combines data and process, that it uses Web standards, that it’s independent of Web standards, that it’s asynchronous, that it’s synchronous, and that the synchronicity doesn’t matter!” Fowler’s take on SOA may be light-hearted, but it does come uncomfortably close to defining the ambiguity that can surround SOA. SOA promises to connect diverse services into a seamless process that is reusable, responsive to market conditions, effective in integrating heterogeneous systems and able to maximize the enterprise’s existing IT assets. But with myriad available choices in hardware, software and process technologies, SOA also raises distinct challenges in testing and implementation. SOA and the Travel and Hospitality Industry The travel and hospitality industry (and airlines in particular) leads the pack in adopting IT – and SOA – into core business. An SOA can facilitate re usability and integration of systems crucial to efficient work cycles, customer satisfaction, and business scalability. SOA brings the travel and hospitality industry the following benefits: Seamless connectivity over heterogeneous IT legacy Real-time deployment of new business partners Reduced change implementation cycles Faster customer service leading to higher customer loyalty Improved marketing analysis Effective failover management SOA Application Testing: Challenges and Approaches The SOA model requires numerous moving parts to communicate and work together closely amid constant change. This significantly impacts the ‘what’ and ‘how’ of testing. SOA focuses on delivering reusable parts rather than custom applications. This shift, along with outsourcing and off-shoring, means part-makers are further isolated from each other. Scott Barber, chief technologist at PerfTestPlus, makes the challenges with SOA application testing easy to understand: “Since SOA applications are composed of loosely coupled, business-level services distributed over a network, we must test applications end-to-end, service-by-service, and interface-by-interface.” Failure to start tests early (at the unit stage) and maintain them through the phases of inception, elaboration, construction and transition can also balloon time and costs. Manual testing is difficult and often impossible in an SOA environment where change is rapid and functionality is extensive. Finding the balance between automated and manual testing is crucial to the process, as is the assurance that long-term savings will offset the short-term cost associated with automation. Two of the most important facets of SOA testing are Functional Testing Challenges Large number of application programming interfaces (APIs) and communication paths between services Higher levels of integration necessitate interoperability testing Establishing testing ownership and trust Approach SOA applications are created to extend across departments and organizations. In order to test functionality of such breadth, a funnel approach is employed. Tests address end-to-end business flows at the first and broadest rung. These flows are then broken down to identify inter-application, intra-application and finally unit tests. Testing at all these levels, starting with the most atomic, ensures that basic functionality is verified. The most critical functional tests are conducted at the stratum of integration. This happens both at inter- and intra-application levels. Test scenarios that encompass the end-to-end path are created, and data as well as expected results documented at every step. Once this is achieved a similar funnel breakdown into inter-application, intra-application and unit entities is carried out. Exploratory testing using business experts can unearth defects hidden to other techniques. Integration tests can also be carried out with regular functional tests if they possess a similar technology stack. Performance Testing Challenges Unit and service-level testing during development Interface validation Multiplicity of platforms and technologies, requiring various test tools Collating data and monitoring application performance without a single tool that contains the whole picture Maintaining quality across applications Approach Performance testing can identify how the model will actually work under real-world business demands. It requires a design of the end-user workload and environment. Markov chains are commonly used to define how the entire suite of applications will be used. Subjective assessments are drawn from usage feedback given by stakeholders and product managers. Raw data in the form of Web server and application server logs are then mined for data on usage probability. With this information, appropriate performance scenarios can be defined. SOA: A Promising New Paradigm More businesses are beginning to adopt SOA solutions for significant market response and resource advantages. While the benefits of SOA may seem compelling, they are not inevitable. The travel and hospitality industry thrives on the ability to turn first time or occasional customers into loyalists. SOA applications can go a long way in strengthening experiences across the value chain: but not without robust implementation and rigorous testing throughout the SOA life cycle.
