Google today announced another step in the build-out of its Google TV service: it is adding several new international channels in the form of apps to the Google TV platform, aimed at those who live in the U.S. but are missing content from home. Among them are a mix of entertainment and news services, including al-Jazeera, the Chinese-language PPTV, the IslamBox collection of channels, Yupp TV (another aggregator, this time of Indian content) and Japan’s Crunchyroll. But while it is going international on one level, it is not on another: still no definite dates on when Google plans to launch its service outside of the U.S. “We’re looking to roll out internationally through the course of 2012,” a Google spokesperson told TechCrunch. But no specific timings beyond that, or the specific reasons for why is has not done so yet. “We don’t break out the reasons why, but we do want to make sure that users everywhere get the full experience, so we want to make sure we work towards that,” he said. He also did not specify which markets might be the first to see roll-outs of the service outside of the U.S. To get Google TV, Google currently lists two options : either buy a special Sony Internet TV, or a set-top box from Sony or Logitech that you use with your own Internet-enabled TV. Sony in January said that it didn’t expect to offer its Google-TV-enabled devices in the UK, at least, until September. That was already a delay on earlier estimates which had put it at an autumn 2011 arrival. There could be a number of reasons for the delay, from supplies to getting international rights sorted out for the video and other content. That has been one of the key issues with the international expansion of other IP video services, such as Hulu. At the moment, Google TV says it has thousands of apps for the service — basically, everything in Google Play (nee Android Market) that doesn’t require touchscreens, location or other mobile-only features — but in terms of apps that have been optimized for Google TV itself, there are 150. Today’s list in full: PPTV: HD cinema blockbusters and TV dramas from Asia, as well as anime series, variety shows such as Taiwanese Idol and China Super Girl, and live sports and financial news. IslamBox: more than 40 live TV channels and over two thousand hours of video on demand in four different languages from around the world, including the Islam Channel from UK, Express News from Pakistan, Peace TV from India, Bridges Television from USA, Huda TV from Egypt. Yupp TV: more than 80 channels available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali and Punjabi languages. Raaga: South Asian music from more than 200 music labels from the region in almost 20 languages including Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi and more. Crunchyroll: Japanese anime and Asian drama. Euronews: web app that publishes news every 30 minutes covering the day’s top world, sport, business, lifestyle and breaking news in Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish and Ukrainian. Al Jazeera: the English version, not the Arabic edition.

5 Things to Consider When Optimizing Your Software for Geographic Diversity
Before investing valuable time and money selling to different geographic markets, you need to have a strong understanding of the various software modifications that are needed to globalize your product. With the international market presenting significant growth opportunities, small to mid-sized software companies thinking about selling in other countries need to understand the technical issues that have to be resolved before offering their products and services to international customers, including: 1. Cultural barriers: Understanding the cultural differences between your business and foreign markets impacts every technical and business decision you will make. From software compatibility to the words you use to market your product, your success in selling to international markets comes down to how much you know about your chosen market’s native language, communication styles, cultural biases, etc. 2. Software optimization: Optimizing your software to effectively connect, communicate and collaborate with international markets requires a framework for software applications that provides interfaces for different languages and can meet technical requirements around a country’s standard programming languages, payment mechanisms, screen design, and other technical competencies. 3. Localization: Revising your product for a particular country requires localizing certain aspects of your software to meet local business standards and best practices. Adapting your software applications to ensure your user interface meets a specific country’s native language, local date, time, calendar, currency, numbers and units of measure are just a few of the things you will need modify to be in synch with international markets. 4. Business functions: Establishing business relationships and hiring trusted and competent local sales representatives, resellers and distributors who know the market is essential to building efficient and reliable business practices and processes around selling and distributing your products from suppliers to customers in new markets. 5. International implementation: The ability to plan and implement software changes needed to effectively serve international customers will ultimately determine your geo-expansion success. Partnering with a company that has the experience and technical know-how in developing, testing and launching software products in international markets can play a critical role for any company looking to expand business beyond their domestic boarders. Before offering its office productivity tool to new markets, Intel® Software Partner Program start-up InstaColl partnered with a company that offered the technology leadership and global influence to meet the software requirements and consumer demands in India and abroad. The collaboration gave InstaColl access to the tools and resources needed to optimize its software and move forward with its national and international go-to-market strategies. To plan, implement and execute a geo-expansion program from start to finish, partnering with a company that has the experience and expertise can help ease the process of identifying and overcoming the technical challenges ahead. For smaller software companies looking to capitalize on new market opportunities, such a partnership can provide the guidance, management and support needed to meet international requirements and local standards to ensure your product is ready to sell to different geographic markets.
Clickindia launches search filters
Clickindia- India’s largest online classifieds has released a feature for helping its users search better. This service allows the users to define and filter their searches. The search bar is highlighted and more prominent. Once the search results are displayed, the users are given an option to filter their searches according to four different criterias – relevance, date, cateogry and type. The relevance criterion is for the most appropriate match phrase of the key word typed by the user in the search bar. The date criterion filters the search according to the dates on which the ads were last modified or posted. This helps the user to identify how recent the ad is. The category criterion offers to filter the ads by other keywords matching to the one that the user is searching for and the type criterion defines and filters the ads as wanted or offer ads. This feature promises to be time efficient and user friendly for both buyers and sellers. Locating each other is also made easy as the “Type Filter” can be clubbed with any other filter. The filtering of search results for users can be done by the simple click of a mouse that would check or uncheck the criterions. Not exactly as planned……..luckily
At the beginning of 2010 I had the opportunity to travel to Bangalore, India to meet with several ISVs. The main purpose of the visit was to gain some insight to help with the development of the Manageability Checker, a tool created to help with AMT development and to test uses cases. I also got the chance to casually talk to the ISVs about vPro and their enabling efforts to support the technology. I gained a lot of knowledge during the trip and many of my learnings were incorporated into actionable plans to help ISVs with their development. One of the ISVs that I met with was Artin Dynamics. They were kind enough to travel over 13 hours by bus to spend some time with me. Oh sure, they were polite enough to answer my questions about the Manageability Checker. But what they really were enthused about was the chance to show me their power management product, Spara, and how it worked to reduce energy costs. Their excitement was evident and we then spent some time discussing how to incorporate vPro into the mix to take their solution to the next level. We brainstormed for a while and adjourned with both of us optimistic that they would find a way. With a little time and a lot of passion, Artin Dynamics has incorporated vPro technology into Spara, offering their customers the opportunity to manage power states across several hardware scenarios. What started out as a simple meeting to help me with my tool development, turned into a opportunity for Artin to extend Spara’s functionality. The Clash of the TITANS : The Tigers vs The Lions
For the first time in the history of cricket, the world cup finals will witness two Asian teams in the finals. This world cup is known to break many records, three time consecutive winners, Aussies lost in the quarter finals to India. Both the teams lost only one match each in the entire tournament. Sri Lanka lost to Pakistan and India lost to South Africa. Both the finalists had one match without a conclusive result. Sri Lanka vs Australia was an abandoned match and India vs England was a tie. For the first time, the finals would see the finalist team led by captains who are the respective wicket keepers and batsmen of their teams. Sri Lanka has a very strong batting side with two batsmen above the 400 mark runs in the entire tournament. India on the other hand has Sachin Tendulkar who appears to be in perfect form and also would be playing the match in his home town, Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium. India also has Zaheer Khan who is the second highest wicket taker in the tournament closely followed by the Sri Lankan, Muralitharan. Both these teams have reached the World Cup finals for the third time and have won only once. Both the teams won it the first time they reached the finals. All in all, the ICC World Cup 2011 finals promises to be a treat for cricket lovers with both the teams being equally competitive. The finalists have showed consistent performance throughout the tournament which makes it difficult to predict the result. Who is mightier ? The Lions or The Tigers… we’d know on the 2 nd of April!!!
