Winklevoss Finally give up on Facebook

It has been years since Tylor and Cameron Winklevoss began their fight for Facebook against Mark Zuckerberg. They were classmates of Mark at Harvard and accused him of stealing their idea. In 2008, they had settled that amounts to almost $200 million today. Unfortunately the twins later claimed that actual value of Facebook stock was not revealed to them and that they have been cheated. They had appealed again at The Ninth Circuit of Court Appeals and lost. The court held that at some point in time their litigation must come to an end. That point in time, according to the court, had been reached. The Winklevoss didn’t think so. They had appealed their case to the US Supreme Court. Now the Winklevoss have decided to withdraw their appeal. This was quite predictable for they didn’t really stand a chance to be heard let alone win. Somehow, the credibility of the Winklevoss is such, that you can’t quite trust them when they claim they have dropped it. They have a history of, let’s say, “being back”.

It is the Winkelvoss twins again

No matter what the world says, they aren’t going to leave Facebook or Mark zuckerberg in peace. Yes even if they say so, they don’t mean it.       The Winkelvoss- Tyler and Cameron had claimed that they will not appeal to the US Supreme court and it seemed that they are finally satisfied. But much to everyone’s surprise they have filed a litigation against Facebook again. The had a settlement of $65 million in 2008. Now the twins with their Indian partner Divya Narendra are suing the social networking site in the US district court of Massachusettes claiming that the site was not transparent in the proceedings. The twins had decided to file a Petition for Certiorari but had dropped the idea on Wednesday and decided on a fresh lawsuit on Thursday. Facebook’s counsel has made a statement that these allegations are old and baseless. They have been considered and rejected by the court earlier. It is clear, however, that the Winkelvoss twins aren’t decisive about filing or not filing their litigation. This shows the allegations they will make in a poor light.

Emarketer predictions favor Facebook

The display ad business and revenue will eventually overtake the search option by 2015 predicts eMareketer and further adds that Facebook will be the fore runner in this category. According to its predictions, Facebook’s US display ad revenue will reach $2 billion this year, making the company ahead of everyone else. This is almost a 80% jump from the previous year. The revenues had increased by triple figures from 2009 to 2010 and are predicted to show a 30% increase from 2011 to 2012. Google come’s third, next to only Yahoo and Facebook in eMarketer’s predictions. Google’s display ad revenue would grow by around 30% this year. Though both eMArketer and IDC predict the booming market of the display ads but they both differ in who leads the market. While eMArketer quite clearly favors Facebbok, IDC claims that Google overtook Yahoo in the first quarter. According to then Facebook only has a 8% share in the market making it number three.

Twitter to offer automated ad buying system

Twitter has now decided to offer an automated system for buying ads for small businesses. Predictably, this would lead to a torrent of new advertising in the business market. Twitter’s president of global revenue- Adam Bain feels that Twitter’s sales department does not have the time to go through each and every demand of the small businesses that approach them. Thus Twitter has decided to offer a ready made/ turnkey type of ads by the end of this year. In 2010, Twitter had come out with a online form and a program that helped marketeers promote themselves through tweets, trends and accounts. Marketeers could also find leads for the twitter market reps. If implemented, apart from raising prices for ads in Google AdWords, it would also increase Twitter’s revenue from advertising to $150 million, almost the same as that of Facebook’s ad revenue in 2007.

Facebook acquires “Sofa” for design

Facebook has acquired a software firm for its designing. Sofa is an Amsterdam based firm that has established itself in designing. Facebook enters world of music, video and television

Facebook the widely used platform for communicating efficiently with friends, family, relatives and co-workers has entered into a partnership with online video and music companies to launch a new feature.   This feature will display the songs the user listens to most and provide a technique whereby even friends could listen and share those songs. Even video and television content shall be included says Facebook. Facebook is trying to integrate various partners for its music service. Facebook with this new venture would very soon turn into a multimedia hub whereby one could  access the content watched or listened to by their friends. This is one way to make users stay on the Facebook site for a longer time. Facebook had acquired web operating system from Parakey in 2007 and it to be be the web’s focal point it needs to know the user’s choice of music, video, books and TV shows. Facebook is working on the design of this feature. Social networks have members and the trick of holding them long by such innovative measures may somewhat work but it is too early to judge how thing may turn out to be for Facebook. Facebook entering the music industry may bring about some fundamental changes.
