NetWorx is a simple and free, yet powerful tool that helps you objectively evaluate your bandwidth situation. You can use it to collect bandwidth usage data and measure the speed of your Internet or any other network connection. NetWorx can help you identify possible sources of network problems, ensure that you do not exceed the bandwidth limits specified by your ISP, or track down suspicious network activity characteristic of Trojan horses and hacker attacks. The program allows you to monitor all your network connections or a specific network connection (such as Ethernet or PPP) only. The software also features a system of highly customizable visual and sound alerts. You can set it up to alert you when the network connection is down or when some suspicious activity, such as unusually heavy data flow, occurs. It can also automatically disconnect all dialup connections and shut down the system. The incoming and outgoing traffic is represented on a line chart and logged to a file, so that you can always view statistics about your daily, weekly and monthly bandwidth usage and dialup duration. The reports can be exported to a variety of formats, such as HTML, MS Word and Excel, for further analysis. Features: Clear graphic and/or numeric display. Added import of IP address to be ignored (formats understood are IP address range, CIDR and individual IP addresses). Bandwidth rates shown under the graph are made monochrome (this can be reverted via a hidden setting). Added a hidden setting allowing to relocate the database to another folder. Zip Code Software – Zip Code Database Software Explained

It seems that there are several zip code software packages available for purchase today, some very costly, some very cheap, and a smattering priced somewhere in between the two. There is only so much you can do with zip code information, so it is not surprising that virtually all of these zip code software programs will basically let you to do the same thing: filter the zip codes depending on the criteria you have entered and export the data to some of the more common formats used at present, thus letting you to use the info in your own software applications or web sites. Some of the more sophisticated zip code software packages also have built-in features such as distance calculation and/or the ability to perform radius searches. Oh, and be sure that the actual data is included in the purchase price as many of the zip code software vendors will charge extra for the data and they don’t allow you to include your own. When looking for zip code software pay special attention to the features that let you to filter the data. Filtering the data will certainly be the most common task you will run when using a zip code software program. The program should allow an individual to easily verify zip codes, correct spelling of city names, find out which county a city is situated in, and a whole lot more. Be sure to find a zip code software program that will let you export your data to the formats you will need for your own use. Together with an easy to use interface, a person should be able to easily separate the data and save it to many formats with the click of a button! Depending on the program, it may be possible to export the complete data set or only selected records and information of your choice which can later be used in your own applications. You may want to contemplate some of the more advanced features a zip code software program has to offer as well. Want to figure out the distance between two zip codes? Look for zip code software that contains everything you need to do just that. If you’re a user who may also want to perform what is known as a radius search, look for a package that will allow you to enter a starting zip code and a distance, such as ten miles for example, and then spits out every zip code within ten miles of the starting zip code. Finally, make sure that the program you choose includes the latest, most up to date database of over 42000 US zip code listings so you don’t get stuck with a piece of software and no data to go with it. Many vendors try to stick you with the extra cost of the data by selling you the software cheap but making the data very costly.

New Host, New Look, Fresh Install

I’ve spent quite a bit of time trying to move this site over to a new host and have finally done it. Although, it’s missing things like some comments and doesn’t display the correct amount of comments either. The reason I had so many troubles is that the database had duplicate stuff in it, somehow. So when I tried to import to a new database, it would display an error. Eventually I was able to use the import feature in WordPress, but still leaving out quite a bit because it would time out. Since I do not want a lot of downtime, I’m just going to be happy that the site is live on the new host and with a new look, only because I had problems getting the old one to work correctly with the features that were enabled on it. I’m running less plugins now. I could have spent time fixing the old one, but I don’t have the time! Anyway, I apologize for the lack of posting I’ve been doing, and promise to start posting some more content on here. If you find anything that looks odd or isn’t working, please let me know. I kind of just threw everything up in a hurry and still have a few things to change. For those of you who are still subscribed after all this time, thank you! No related posts.

Online Crash Reports & Timezones

I have been working on finishing up what I will call the first useful experimental release of the mesh management tools. I have been at it for over a year and it’s getting close to being stable and useful. One of the things I added to all of the tools on the opentools.homeip.net web site was self-update (which I am still fixing up), but I also wanted to automate crash reporting. Well, today I built and shipped the new crash reporting feature. All of the tools when crashing will upload the exception on this site . Right now, it’s just junk, but I as the new tools get used, I hope to collect much more crash data that I can act upon. I am also making the crash report site public, since these are open source tools, it makes a lot of sense. Separately, I am been working on my ASP.net mesh web site. I wanted to add time-zone support. People in different time zones would not get correct monitoring data and that was annoying (not that I can imagine, everything we in pacific time with was good for me). I looked up ASP.net timezone support and found surprising little. Basically, you are on your own to ask the user for the timezone and display accordingly. Today, I switched all of my database data over to UTC time and after a few long hours, got the web site ready to go. On one page, I use the ASP.net calendar control and it highlights “today” (pacific time) in a different color. Since today is different depending on the timezone, I have to fix that. Sadly, I could not find a fix except to change to highlight color so today is no longer highlighted. Well. With timezone support on the site and crash reporting now working. I had a pretty good day.
