Winklevoss Finally give up on Facebook

It has been years since Tylor and Cameron Winklevoss began their fight for Facebook against Mark Zuckerberg. They were classmates of Mark at Harvard and accused him of stealing their idea. In 2008, they had settled that amounts to almost $200 million today. Unfortunately the twins later claimed that actual value of Facebook stock was not revealed to them and that they have been cheated. They had appealed again at The Ninth Circuit of Court Appeals and lost. The court held that at some point in time their litigation must come to an end. That point in time, according to the court, had been reached. The Winklevoss didn’t think so. They had appealed their case to the US Supreme Court. Now the Winklevoss have decided to withdraw their appeal. This was quite predictable for they didn’t really stand a chance to be heard let alone win. Somehow, the credibility of the Winklevoss is such, that you can’t quite trust them when they claim they have dropped it. They have a history of, let’s say, “being back”.

It is the Winkelvoss twins again

No matter what the world says, they aren’t going to leave Facebook or Mark zuckerberg in peace. Yes even if they say so, they don’t mean it.       The Winkelvoss- Tyler and Cameron had claimed that they will not appeal to the US Supreme court and it seemed that they are finally satisfied. But much to everyone’s surprise they have filed a litigation against Facebook again. The had a settlement of $65 million in 2008. Now the twins with their Indian partner Divya Narendra are suing the social networking site in the US district court of Massachusettes claiming that the site was not transparent in the proceedings. The twins had decided to file a Petition for Certiorari but had dropped the idea on Wednesday and decided on a fresh lawsuit on Thursday. Facebook’s counsel has made a statement that these allegations are old and baseless. They have been considered and rejected by the court earlier. It is clear, however, that the Winkelvoss twins aren’t decisive about filing or not filing their litigation. This shows the allegations they will make in a poor light.

Shiv Nagar renamed as “SnapDeal.com” Nagar

A small village in Northern India has renamed itself from Shiv Nagar to SnapDeal.com Nagar, the Indian version of Groupon. The villagers had ample reason to initiate such a name change. SnapDeal.com’s CEO, Kunal Bahl, claims that he wanted to do something for the society with the company’s increasing profits. Apparently the residents of this village had to walk two miles everyday for fresh, clean water. So in his philanthropic effort he decided to install 15 hand pumps. Thus, now the villagers didn’t have to take a laborious effort for a basic amenity like water. The villagers were so touched that they decided to change their village’s name- Shiv nagar ( named after the Hindu God ) to SnapDeal.com Nagar. The young CEO adds that this was not a PR or marketing effort but a simple and empathetic effort to prove that each one of us can help the society in some manner.

Apple’s lawsuits against Samsung only get bitter

Apple has changed its “intellectual” property right against the Korean giant. This is not a favorable change though. Apple believes that more products of Samsung are a lot like Apple products. This row started over with the Galaxy series. In April, Apple had filed a complaint stating that the Galaxy smartphones and the Galaxy Tablets are a lot like Apple’s products. This, Apple claimed was against the company’s patents and rights. In their changed complaint, Apple has included and listed more Samsung products as “copied”. They have listed Droid Chrage 4G and the Galaxy II series. Apple claims that the design and the user interface aesthetics are almost similar. Many believe that Apple is being unduly Touchy about this matter whereas others claim that though Apple’s concerns are right yet they have picked “Samsung” as the target and are not suing any other company that may well be charged under this particular violation.
