I am really happy about being the new ISN Parallel Programming Community Manager. (I had previously been in charge of the Manageability Community.) I’ve been spinning up, thanks to former community manager Aaron Tersteeg. I’ve been busy for the last month learning as much as I can about this different focus area: Multi-Core, and especially about Parallel Programming. These are proving to be fascinating subjects and I appreciate the help I’m receiving from community members.
A few years ago I worked as a technical writer on an initial multi-core reference design project. At the time I wondered how many cores there would eventually be. I understand that the number is 12 now. Wow – how many cores are too many? Is the sky the limit? We’ll have to wait and see. But being close to this technology and the people who create it is just as exciting now for me as it was back then.
In the meantime I’ll concentrate on this community – ensuring that it keeps growing and that members are getting just what they need as well as have opportunities to contribute to the whole. I’m sure I’ll be making some changes and appreciate any and all feedback on the community. What’s good and what could be better? Can I help you get on the path to become an ISN Black Belt? If you are on a Principal Engineer or Senior Engineer career path, ISN’s Black Belt Program is a superb vehicle to help you get there. Drop me a line and we can create a plan to utilize this unique program to your advantage.
As always on this community we’ve gotten a lot of new content in the past few weeks including new Blogs, articles and Parallel Programming Talk shows. Here are some titles.
- Superscalar Programming 101 (Matrix Multiply) Part 1 of 3
- Thunk you very much! (or How do OpenMP Compilers Work, Part 2)
- Parallel Programming Talk #86 -Don Tyson, SunGard Chief Technology Officer
- n-bodies: a parallel TBB solution: parallel code with parallel_invoke: will it run faster?
- Parallel Programming Talk #85 – “What game developer can teach parallel programmers” with Intel engineer Brad Werth
Look for some very interesting happenings on the Parallel Programming Talk show in the next few weeks. You will definitely want to view these.
And then we have episodes of ISN-TV coming up in September at the Intel Developer Forum to look forward to.
Hey – it’s 5pm on Friday – let the weekend begin – enjoy it wherever you happen to be!
Regards
Kathy
